FAQ

What's the difference between the driver and the optional guide? Do I really need a guide?

Think of it this way:

  • Your Driver (Included): Is your safe, reliable transport expert. He’s a professional who speaks English, knows the roads like the back of his hand, and will get you to all the main spots on time. For many travelers, he is more than enough for a fantastic trip!
  • Your Personal Guide (Optional Add-on): Is your storyteller, photographer, and cultural insider. He’ll take you to hidden photo spots, explain the history of the temples, help you order the best local food, and tell you stories you’d never find online.

The bottom line: You don’t need a guide to have an amazing time. But if you want a deeper, richer experience with a dedicated local friend, adding a guide is 100% worth it.

Great question! The Ijen hike is a steady, uphill walk for about 90 minutes to 2 hours on a wide, but sandy path. You don’t need to be a super athlete, but a decent level of walking fitness helps. We always go at your pace.

As for the blue fire, its visibility depends on volcanic activity and wind conditions on the day. Your safety is our absolute priority, so if the rangers say it’s not safe to go down into the crater, we will respect that. The sunrise view from the crater rim is still breathtakingly beautiful either way!

We hate hidden fees as much as you do. Our agency has a strict no hidden fees policy.

The price we quote you includes:

  • Private AC car with fuel
  • Your English-speaking driver
  • All listed hotel nights
  • All entrance tickets mentioned in the itinerary
  • The Bromo 4×4 Jeep rental
  • Ijen safety gear (gas masks, headlamps)
  • Daily mineral water

The only things not included are your meals (so you can choose what you want to eat!), personal expenses, and tips for your driver/guide (which are always appreciated but never mandatory).

Absolutely! This is one of our most popular routes. We can start your tour from the airport, train station, or your hotel in Surabaya or Malang. After your tour finishes in the Ijen area, we’ll drive you to the ferry port, help you cross to Bali, and a Balinese driver will be waiting to take you to your next hotel in areas like Ubud, Seminyak, or Canggu. Just let us know when you book!

Of course! We love hosting solo travelers and your safety is our top priority. You can book any of our tours as a private trip for one person. The price will be adjusted since you’re covering the cost of the private car yourself, but it means you get a completely personalized experience. Just contact us for a quick custom quote.

This is a super important question! It gets surprisingly COLD at Bromo’s sunrise point (around 3-8°C / 37-46°F). We highly recommend packing:

  • A warm jacket (a fleece and a windbreaker are a great combo)
  • Long pants
  • A beanie or hat, and maybe gloves
  • Comfortable, closed-toe walking shoes (sneakers are fine)
  • Sunglasses and sunscreen for the daytime

Don’t worry about the specialized gear—we’ll provide the gas masks and headlamps for your Ijen hike.

We choose hotels and guesthouses that are clean, safe, and strategically located to give you the best experience (and a bit more sleep!). In the mountain areas around Bromo and Ijen, the accommodation is generally simple and cozy rather than luxurious. Think comfortable beds, private bathrooms, and hot water everything you need for a good night’s rest before your adventure. We’ve personally vetted them all
